The Fire Engine is the property of the Thornbury Parish Council and kept at the Fire Station, St Mary Street. No charge is made for the use of the Engine at fires within the parish but in cases of fires outside the parish £3 3s is charged for the use of the Engine and £1 10s for horse hire in addition to the pay of the Brigade according to the rules and all other expenses incurred. Gospel Total Abstinence Society
A United Band of Hope in connection with the Non-Conformist Churches of Thornbury, is held on alternate Tuesdays at 7pm consecutively in the Baptist, Congregational and Wesleyan Schoolrooms. Mr G Whitfield, president; Mr J N Nichols, superintendent; Mr G Stone secretary.
A large and important market for horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, fruit, & etc is held at Streamleaze near the Railway Station on the second Wednesday and fourth Monday in each month.
